The German International School of Dallas is a full German Immersion private school from Kindergarten through Grade 5. With our small classroom sizes and our unique way of teaching in multi-age classes, the students learn to teach each other as well as learn from others. We see every student as an individual and foster their educational needs and strengths.
Our Kindergarten program is the first step in our Elementary school. German language skills are beneficial and are required to join Kindergarten. While the Kindergarteners (“Vorschueler” in German) have a more structured schedule they still learn through play. All subjects are taught in the German language. Additionally, children have English as a subject.

The curriculum for our Elementary school is based on the Bayerischer Lehrplan Plus für Grundschule.
In addition to our German curriculum “Bayerischer Lehrplan Plus,” we teach English following the Texas TEKS as a subject to ensure our students will be fluently reading and writing in English. With higher grade levels we add more English, as well as math in the English language to make the transition to the American school system easy.
At German International School of Dallas, our middle school program combines the strengths of the German educational system with an internationally focused learning environment. Our students continue to learn primarily in German and follow a structured academic program based on the Bavarian curriculum (Bayerischer LehrplanPLUS), while developing the independence, critical thinking, and academic skills they need for the next stage of their education.
We recognize that every student has different strengths, interests, and future goals. Therefore, our middle school students are introduced to different educational pathways within the German school system, with instruction designed to prepare them for the academic expectations of different types of secondary schools.
For students pursuing a more academically rigorous pathway, our curriculum follows the expectations of the Gymnasium level. This pathway places a strong emphasis on academic depth, independent learning, analytical thinking, and preparation for the Abitur and future university studies.
At the same time, we work closely with each student and family to identify the educational pathway that best matches the student’s abilities, interests, and long-term goals. This allows our students to build a strong foundation while keeping multiple options open for their future education.
Our students continue to develop a high level of German through daily immersion and academic instruction. English remains an important part of the program, giving students the opportunity to develop strong communication and academic skills in both languages.
In addition, students have the option of choosing French as a third language. Introducing a third language at the middle school level gives students another valuable international skill while strengthening their understanding of languages, cultures, and global perspectives.
Our goal is not simply to prepare students for the next grade level, but to prepare them for the educational opportunities that come after GISD. Through a rigorous German curriculum, multilingual education, and individualized academic guidance, our middle school students develop the knowledge, confidence, and independence needed to successfully continue their education in Germany, the United States, or another international setting.

We celebrate across all cultures and ethnicities and appreciate singing songs not only in German and English. With our approach to raise global thinkers, we celebrate monthly International Tea Parties, where our families teach the students about their country’s origin. While the students learn about the country, they get to taste delicious food and drinks as well.

When children are fully immersed in a second language, they become flexible and creative thinkers who are a lot more aware of other cultures. In fact, the many cognitive processes that underlie the ability to speak and read a foreign language transfer from one language to another. Meaning that a full immersion program not only teaches students a foreign language, but it also strengthens their understanding of their native language as well. The younger the child, the easier it is to learn a new language through an immersion program.
